Reinventing reality.
From September 4 to October 3, 2010, the Werft 11 Gallery will feature an exhibition called “FOTO 2K10” showcasing the works of photographers Christian Angl, Ben Plefka, and Daniel Sabranski. Rather than simply reproducing reality (as photographers are often scornfully accused of doing), they each invent, construct, model, and choreograph their own reality.
In their work, Angl and Plefka are like stage or film directors. Their goal is to portray an exceptional human circumstance: a room with objects from a mundane – and often desolate – existence is arranged in such a way as to create a fictional scenario. It is up to the viewer to interpret and decode the meaning of the scenes created.
Christian Angl and Ben Plefka live and work in Berlin.
Daniel Sebranski usually uses his body to envision an image. Using maquettes, models, costumes, and other aids, he creates a reality that he conveys through his photographs, his artistic medium. He does not digitally edit any of his photos.
Daniel Sabranksi lives and works in Nuremberg.
