The work of Piet Stockmans displays thematic breadth and diversity, combining industrial methods and production with unique artistic ideas.

In designing and manufacturing hotel porcelain, studio collections, and art objects, Stockmans draws on the basic properties of the materials he is working with and utilizes them in his creations. The form of his containers and vessel-like objects is always simple, their color almost entirely white and blue. For his handmade pieces and limited editions, Stockmans places great emphasis on process.

Commenting on his own work, Stockmans has said that it is "always about delicateness and the fragility. One should search for no more meaning in the works than they contain in themselves. The physical experience, the simple intervention vis-à-vis the matter, shows the beauty of the piece and proves the existence of aesthetics."
