Currents

The gallery is situated by a river at the historic dockyards of Cologne. Old warehouses and storage buildings have been meticulously restored and embellished with modern architecture. Werft 11 makes a link to the essential atmosphere of the old docks as place of commerce: a place for the transfer of goods – a meeting-place of the cultures.

With her curatorial concept, Sigrid Schmalen probes behind traditional values and carves out the flowing transformations between classic art forms and their bordering disciplines. The intention of the gallery is to exhibit works of hand-crafted and artistic quality, based on a subjective choice of topics, ideas and persons. Werft 11 lies on the river – flowing transformations and currents of today are in focus.
